The Residents’ Visitor Program
Himalayan Institute Residents are welcome to have family and friends visit them at the Institute. This is a way to share our home and give those close to us an opportunity to experience our community. Day visitors are always welcome. Approval, room reservations and fees are required for overnight visitors. Guidelines, procedures and fees are outlined below.
The Visitor Program is intended for family and close friends coming primarily to visit you while you are living at the Institute. It is not intended for those coming to the Institute to attend educational programs or retreats, or Total Health Center programs such as Pancha Karma or Rejuvenation Programs. Those who wish to attend a program or retreat or Total Health Center program need to register in the usual way through the website or Contact Center, and pay the regular fees for those programs and accommodations.
Residents’ visitors who would like to schedule ala carte Total Health Center services, such as a massage or a chiropractic appointment, while they are visiting, may do so in the usual way through the Total Health Center. Regular rates for services apply. Residential discounts are not transferable.
Reservations for family and friends are subject to availability. We will not be able to accommodate visitors during busy program times at the Institute. Some types of accommodations may be unavailable to visitors on some dates. Consult the Himalayan Institute website, Program Guide, and/or the Contact Center staff if you are looking for a quieter, more flexible time to have visitors.
Residents are expected to continue with karma yoga duties when their visitors are here, unless you choose to use vacation time-off, with approval of your supervisor. If you take time-off or travel off campus overnight with your visitors, submit an Absence Request Form before you leave.
Residents’ visitors are required to adhere to Himalayan Institute policies while on campus, including silence hours, no smoking in or near buildings, and no alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs or substances on campus. Residents are responsible for informing their guests of these policies.
Please use this Visitor Program consciously and reasonably. Family and close friends may visit for one to 14 night stays. A reasonable number of yearly visits will normally be approved, space permitting. There may be flexibility for extenuating circumstances; discuss these situations with the Residential Program Director before making visitor plans.
Visitor Request Forms and Approval Procedure
Approval and room reservations are required for overnight visitors on campus. If possible, start the process at least 30 days before the visit. First, check availability by emailing or calling the Reservations Desk to ask if there are rooms available for Resident visitors at the time you are looking for. Next, submit an electronic Resident Visitor Request Form, available on the HI Inside Page. The form will automatically be forwarded to the Residential Department for approval. Most requests following the Visitor Program guidelines, at times when rooms are available, are approved. You will be notified ONLY if there is an issue with your visitor request, or if it has not been approved.
